Confessions of a Good Samaritan

“Penny Lane’s ‘Confessions of a Good Samaritan’ is so much more than what its title professes. This hysterical, probing and thoroughly engaging look at the filmmaker’s decision to be an altruistic Kidney donor, shatters the myopic and simplistic idea of a purely good deed. The genius in this first person account comes in part from Lane’s willingness to play the villain in her own story. At a time when so many documentaries exist as propaganda to advance a brand, Lane shows what can happen when you keep the camera rolling and refuse to yell cut. When you’re under the knife for your art (or altruism or both) that’s a job for the DOCtors.”
