Rachael Bower

Rachel Bower is a director/producer as well as a camera operator and editor. Her independently produced documentaries have been screened at film festivals around the world. IN THE SAME BOAT and THE SINGING LUMBERJACK won best documentary at the Silver Wave Film Festival. Rachel has directed and written twenty episodes for CBC’s documentary series Land and Sea. She has also produced four documentaries for AMI (Accessible Media Inc.) She recently created, wrote and directed  ACROSS AND DOWN for CBC’s Passionate Eye

Peter Feniak

Peter Feniak enjoyed a lengthy career in national television programs as host-interviewer at Global TV, CTV and YTV. As a television interviewer he has travelled widely, often to Atlantic Canada. As an award-winning writer, his byline has appeared in the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail and in magazines from Saturday Night to Mojo to Good Times most often on subjects in popular culture. Peter is now semi-retired but his byline is occasionally seen in various publications.

Mikala Krogh

Mikala Krogh is head of documentary at Danish Public Broadcaster DR . Until 2022, Mikala was co-owner/founder of the production company Danish Documentary.

She is the director of the award-winning documentary series "Scandinavian Star" and a number of feature documentaries such as "The Newsroom of the record", "A Year of Hope", "A Normal Life" and "Cairo:Garbage".

Peter Hall

Peter Hall is happily retired after nearly four decades working in Canadian broadcasting. He was a story editor, producer, director and executive producer at various information and news programs at the three major networks. As a senior manager with CBC Atlantic Peter worked closely with independent producers commissioning documentaries and other programs for broadcast in the region and on network television. Peter is the Jury Coordinator for LDF 2024.

Sandra Kleinfeld

Sandra Kleinfeld is the Senior Director of Documentary for CBC Television. She oversees content that includes original stand alone documentary features, Limited Doc series, The Nature of Things, The Passionate Eye, CBC Short Docs, and the subscription based documentary Channel.

Carsten Knox

 Carsten Knox is a journalist, broadcaster, and film critic. He's the host of The Knox Office on CBC Radio's Information Morning, the creator of Flaw In The Iris on HalifaxBloggers.ca, Carsten is also the Artistic Director at Carbon Arc Cinema, an independent art house cinema in downtown Halifax.

Camelia Frieberg

For over thirty years, Camelia Frieberg worked as a film producer, director and writer. She is most well known for her longtime association with Atom Egoyan, serving as the producer of a number of Atom’s films including his Academy Award nominated “The Sweet Hereafter” and the multiple award winning “Exotica”. Camelia also produced Jeremy Podeswa’s first two features, “Eclipse” and “The Five Senses” and Srinivas Krishna’s groundbreaking “Masala”. Most recently Camelia produced the award-winning documentary feature “Modified” with director Aube Giroux of PBS Food’s Kitchen Vignettes.

 At present, her time and energy are spent in creating the Chicory Blue General Store, a thriving community hub in Blockhouse.

Bill Niven

Bill Niven began his film career in 1984 at Telefilm Canada with postings in Canada, Paris, London and Los Angeles. In 1996 he joined Salter Street films (DHX/Wildbrain) as VP Development. He opened  his own production company, Idlewild Films, in 2000. Bill is Past-Chair of the Nova Scotia Motion Picture Industry Association; a member of the CMPA; Lifetime ex-officio member of the board of the Atlantic International Film Festival; Ex-Officio member of the Board of Directors of the  Atlantic Filmmakers Co-op; and served for three terms as Vice-chair, Eastern Canada of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.

John Walker

John Walker is one of Canada’s most prolific and respected documentary filmmakers. His films have  been widely broadcast and have appeared at major international film festivals in Toronto, Vancouver,  New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, London and Tokyo. He has received 60 Canadian and international  nominations and awards for his writing, directing, producing and cinematography, 19 of those from  the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. In 2018, he was honoured with a Hot Docs Focus On Retrospective and a Canadian Society of Cinematographers Masters Award for Outstanding  Contribution to the Art of Cinematography. 

Hank White

Hank White is of Acadian Mi'kmaq descent and based in Halifax Nova Scotia. He is an award winning producer and director with a long history in the film business. Hank owns a number of production companies, including Stone Cold productions and Hank White productions. He has served as Producer, Executive Producer and Director for a number of films set in Canada and the United States. He has also been involved in the production and development of several documentaries including the series RING OF FIRE: The Life of Annie Mae Aquash, and The S WORD: Surviving Suicide on Reserve. Hank started the first casting company in Nova Scotia in 1979 focusing on increasing Indigenous and Black participation in the film industry.

 

Rohan Fernando

Born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, Rohan Fernando immigrated to Canada in 1980. His ensuing career as a visual storyteller has spanned numerous mediums, including visual art, graphic novels, dramatic filmmaking and documentary film, with a common grounding in observation and his outsider perspective on the world around him. His work in documentary includes the features CECIL’S JOURNEY, TRUDEAU’S OTHER CHILDREN, BLOOD & WATER,andTHE CHOCOLATE FARMER. Rohan joined the National Film Board of Canada as a producer in 2018 and was named Executive Producer in September 2022. His most recent credits at NFB include the CSA Award winner Nalajuk Night, CSA nominatedGun Killers,Icebreakers, I Am Skylar,The Geographies of David Adams Richards, A Man Imagined, Hairy Legs, Sons and Netukulimk. As Executive Producer, Rohan oversaw the completion of iconic filmmakerAlan’s Obamsawin’s DVD Box Setand numerous shorts and features.
