Ella Fitzgerald: Just One of Those Things explores how Ella’s music became a soundtrack for a tumultuous century. From a 1934 talent contest at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, the film follows Ella’s extraordinary journey across five decades as she reflects the passions and troubles of the times in her music and life. Moving beyond conventional biopic, the film uses images and music to evoke the feel of those times bringing to life the history of Ella’s unique career. Featuring interviews from Smokey Robinson, Tony Bennett, Jamie Cullum, Norma Miller and Ella’s adopted son Ray Brown Jr.

Join a livestream Q&A with producer Reggie Nadelson after the screening.

Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind is an exploration of the career, music, and influence of legendary Canadian musical icon Gordon Lightfoot. With unprecedented access to the artist, the documentary follows Lightfoot’s evolution from Christian choirboy to troubled troubadour to international star and beloved Canadian icon, taking audiences from high school auditoriums in straight-laced, small town Ontario in the 50s to the coffee houses of Yorkville and Greenwich Village in the 60s, through Lightfoot’s turbulent, substance-fueled arena shows of the 70s, and finally to the artist in present day.

Join a livestream Q&A with director-producer-writers Martha Kehoe and Joan Tosoni after the screening.

Lunenburg Doc Fest is thrilled to announce dates for our 8th edition and a hybrid festival experience.

Join us September 23-29, 2021 for a remarkable lineup of documentaries and livestream events!

All films will be viewable online. Special social events will take place onsite within the parameters of public health guidelines at the time.

We will gather virtually to watch and discuss some of the year’s best new documentary films and add treats to make the screening experience special, thanks to the wonders of technology.

Our programmers are already curating a compelling experience — a virtual screening room of films from around the world as well as Filmmaker Q&As, an online social where you can mingle with fellow film fans, and select in-person events.

As always, we will connect with filmmakers and get the inside stories only available to festival attendees. As much as possible Lunenburg Doc Fest will foster the interactive atmosphere that our filmmakers, special guests, and audiences so much enjoy.
